Playrooms are truly a joy to design. From incorporating fun, whimsical prints and colours to crafting design solutions that spark imagination and encourage play, they offer a unique and rewarding challenge.
When designing a playroom, it's important to consider a few key factors. First, think about the age of the children who will be using the space and how long they’ll realistically need it as a playroom. A common pitfall is creating a highly bespoke room that children outgrow in just a few years. Designing an adaptable space that can evolve with them is essential.
Next, consider storage. How many toys do the children currently have, and what’s the best way to store them? In one example, we incorporated built-in cupboards alongside a charming book tree to beautifully display books and smaller toys which was both practical and playful.
Safety is also paramount. Ensure the space is safe for children to play in and avoid sharp corners or rough surfaces. Opt for stain-resistant fabrics and soft, comfortable flooring to make the space as child-friendly as possible.
Seating is another important element. Think about where children and their friends, or their parents, might sit when visiting or relaxing in the space.
Finally, don’t be afraid to have fun with lighting, fabrics, and artwork. A playful, creative touch can elevate the room and make it feel magical.
An effectively designed playroom can become a nurturing environment that inspires, engages, and grows alongside the children who use it.
