Let’s be honest, in the modern age comfort is king. Our daily lives have been progressively overhauled to prioritise ease and convenience. From the rise of working from home to being able to order almost anything straight to our front door, maximising comfort at home has never been more important.
Choosing the right sofa is an important decision. Not only does it need to complement the look of your space, but it must also be durable and, of course, comfortable.
First and foremost, try sofas in person. The last thing you want is to order a beautiful sofa online only to discover it feels like sitting on a brick bench. Many higher end sofas allow you to tailor the softness and support of the seat, so take the time to test different options and find what suits you best.
Next, consider fabrics. Do you have pets or small children? If so, durability becomes even more important. Many modern fabrics now feature stain resistant finishes, and choosing a fabric with a high rub count will help ensure it lasts for years. When it comes to colour and pattern, plainer designs are often a safer choice, but do not shy away from colour altogether. You can always introduce prints through cushions, which are easy to swap out if your tastes change. If you do decide on a pattern on your sofa, smaller patterns are much less overwhelming and are easier to tie in with the rest of the room.
For smaller spaces, it is best to select a sofa with narrower arms to avoid taking up unnecessary room. A design with visible space underneath can create a lighter, airier feel, and choosing legs that complement the rest of the room can help tie the space together.
Corner and chaise sofas can also be excellent options, offering additional comfort and seating. Be sure to measure your space carefully to ensure there is enough room to move around the sofa comfortably.
