A Whimsical &
Calming Space
A whimsical and calming space was created for this young girl's bedroom. A mixture of textures and patterns that take inspiration from an area that you would want to escape to.
A cool and sophisticated colour palette was used to encourage a sense of peace in a space that allows for growth throughout the years. And a rail along the wall provides a place to hang fairy lights and treasured photos!
the brief
A room with a steeply sloped ceiling was home to a lovely young girl, for whom we were to create a room that would be a relaxing haven both now and for the future. We needed to make the best of the unique features of the room’s architecture whilst incorporating all the elements needed to make her comfortable.
THE WHY
Childrens’ rooms, particularly as they enter their teenage years, need to accommodate a wide variety of interests, and make them feel at home both now and in years to come. In this case we also needed to pay heed to a steeply sloping ceiling with a skylight, which gave a sense of space to a room with a relatively small footprint. Incorporating flexible storage that would serve her well throughout her school years was an additional requirement.
THE OUTCOME
We made a feature of the ceiling by installing whimsical wallpaper with a light, airy design that expanded the space. A fluffy cloud light adds to the atmosphere. The soft pink and green colour scheme reflected her favourite colours and the bed hides storage in the ottoman base. As a final touch the 5-metre long pole along one wall allows her to give full rein to her imagination to display every treasure!
