From dated to timeless.
SURREY HILL'S BATHROOM
Tasked with designing a guest bathroom to complement an already beautifully crafted home, our challenge was to infuse the space with an abundance of colour as per the client’s request. We started with a luxurious, vibrant wallpaper, using it as the foundation for the entire design scheme.
the brief
A large arts and crafts house is the setting for this bathroom, which the owners wanted to be both striking and original, while also respecting the fabric of the house. The room isn't overlooked, allowing the windows to match those elsewhere, and the generous proportions of the room lent themselves to a luxurious treatment. Simplicity and easy of use (and cleaning!) were also important, so that the new design could be enjoyed to the full.
THE WHY
The owners were keen to embrace colour and pattern, and wanted a modern approach that would fit in well with the Arts and Crafts style of the house. They trusted us to create an original design that would be wonderfully functional and pay attention to every single detail. The uneven ceiling lines were a challenge, and the proportions of the room needed to be used well, ensuring both luxury and practicality.
THE OUTCOME
A truly original space, with many bespoke elements fitting perfectly into the room. The antique bronze finish on all the fittings complements the house’s original features perfectly, and the bold colour on the specially created vanity unit picks up on the vibrant wallpaper. A tadelakt finish on the walls is tactile and luxurious, and also easily deals with the many unusual angles in the room. A bench upholstered in outdoor fabric provides seating without having to worry about splashes, and a marble windowsill to match the vanity top completes the picture.
