This Victorian house was completely redesigned and transformed, creating a substantial luxurious home with a garden annexe. The ground floor has a drawing room, full library, and games room in addition to a spacious extension with an impressive kitchen, unique bespoke dining table and comfortable family room area.

There is also a full utility room and shower room, as well as understairs storage. Five bedrooms and bathrooms complete the home, along with a new garden.

the brief

“We want to live in a nice house” was the initial plea from this family — the house was in a fantastic location but had been badly neglected for many years, and the layout wasn’t practical for their lifestyle, with two growing boys and busy professional parents. The house was to be completely reimagined, creating large family spaces as well as intimate hideaways, with every consideration given to practical concerns.

THE WHY

This house needed to accommodate a professional couple with children and a live-in nanny, and to provide space for everyone to be together as well as plenty of privacy. Natural light needed to be maximised, and a sense of joy was to be infused throughout. The family had a large collection of artwork that was aching to be displayed, and on top of everything it needed to be practical to cope with hectic family life.

THE OUTCOME

The house was almost completely reconfigured to provide not only enough bedrooms and bathrooms, but separate study/work spaces for everyone. An annexe houses a small separate flat for live-in staff. Garden items are cleverly housed to the side of the annexe, invisible from the outside. Period features were seamlessly reinstated alongside all modern conveniences, and colourful fabrics and joinery finishes welcome you from the moment you step through the front door.
