This house was redone from top to bottom, adding a new master bedroom and a glorious kitchen extension.

The front living room was also cleverly enlarged by installing an L-shaped library corner carved out from what had been the middle room, with a cloakroom and utility room also tucked into the core of the house.

the brief

Busy professional lives require calm and organised spaces at home in order for everything to function properly. Our clients needed to reconfigure their Victorian terrace to make it work better for them, including a stunning kitchen extension and insightful re-working of the front and back rooms to conceal the practical machinery that makes everything happen. And of course new schemes for each room to make it beautiful!

THE WHY

The typical Victorian terraced house is a wonderful starting point for renovation, as it offers so many possibilities for reconfiguration to suit each family’s needs. In this case the large kitchen extension adds many square metres to the living space and is visually stunning as well. The room in the centre of the house, formerly the dining room, could then be carved up to address the many practical needs of the family, and a separate master suite was created to provide a sanctuary for the owners.

THE OUTCOME

By extending both up and out the family achieved their goals — the top floor was given over to a sumptuous master suite with double-depth storage; their daughter’s new room would grow with her, and the ground floor boasts a unique library corner in the enlarged sitting room, with twin access to the kitchen extension, making the house feel much more spacious than you would think given it’s original footprint. Tactile materials and bespoke lighting complete the picture.
