Mirrors visually enlarge the space, and the black and white marble together with the ceiling wallpaper and quirky accessories complete the theatrical look!
the brief
Part of an extensive refurbishment of a pied-a-terre in Kensington, this bijou bathroom needed to accommodate both the functions that would be expected, as well as hide laundry facilities. The family wanted a luxurious and unique design that would surprise and delight whilst packing a huge amount into a tiny space.
THE WHY
Much like cloakrooms in larger houses, small bathrooms are an opportunity to let your creativity run wild and embrace colours and patterns that might be overpowering in larger spaces. Every square millimetre of this room needed to work extra hard to accommodate the need for storage, laundry facilities as well as a bath and shower. This was to be used not only by family, but by guests as well, reinforcing the need for both visual impact and practicality.
THE OUTCOME
A truly dramatic monochrome marble masterpiece! Every surface has been covered, with marble tiles used for the floor and walls, and wallpaper for the ceiling. Mirrors increase the sense of space and light, while carefully chosen accessories heighten the drama. A washer and dryer hide behind closed doors, which also contain a column of shelves. A pocket door allows easy access without taking up more space. Truly unique!
