This large open plan living space displays multi-functional purposes within the kitchen, dining and living area. A variety of beautiful shades of blue are reflected throughout to create a sense of cohesion and calmness. Every item placed was carefully considered to fit this modern room, with bespoke shelving built to proudly display the client's intricate ceramic sculptures.

This room represents functional beauty from the large kitchen, to the cosy sofa lounging corners.

the brief

The living space in this 1980’s house needed to be optimised to suit the family with two teenage boys. The house already had great light flowing through, and our mission was to bring a sense of harmony to the open plan room by designing a kitchen that worked for the family, and carefully choosing items for the room that would make the most of the space.

THE WHY

The family had recently moved to this house after living abroad for several years, and wanted to give the room a clear identity, and also to have a very practical kitchen. They wanted to be able to enjoy each and every item in the room, so sight-lines as well as style and function were carefully considered. The house needed to work for family life now, and also for the couple themselves in the future as their offspring grew up.

THE OUTCOME

A stylish and super-functional plywood kitchen became the cornerstone for this design, which had us refinishing the existing floor to unify the space and refurbishing the large mid-century sideboard that had been a family heirloom. Each piece that was chosen for the room has the opportunity to shine in the newly uncluttered space, which is now a clean, modern living/dining/working space that they all can use to the full.
