Organic Design - Anna Auzins Interiors

Organic Design

In a world that is constantly pushing the next new and shiny thing, there seems to be an increasing desire to return to something more organic. While there are many different design styles, organic design can work beautifully with many of them. Organic design focuses mainly on the materials used and the colour palette, with the overall feel being comforting, soft and relaxed.

When it comes to the palette, we are not looking for anything too lively or intense. Instead, choose colours that feel as though they have been influenced by nature, rather than manmade or highly engineered. They should have warmth and depth without overpowering the space. Think rust, dusky greens and burnt umber. The same applies to patterns, whether on fabric or wallpaper. Look for colours that feel natural and patterns that have the appearance of being hand printed or hand woven.

Textiles should follow the same principles. Fabrics made from natural materials such as linen and cotton are key to creating an organic feel. These can be layered for a softer, more relaxed look, or kept simple for something cleaner. Look for fabrics with a more natural finish and do not be afraid of imperfections. Cushions with frayed edges or loosely woven fabrics can add to the relaxed feel.

Avoid too many sharp corners and let organic lines dictate the space. Curves can soften a room and feel much more natural than lots of straight, perfect lines.

Try not to over clutter the space. Organic design is about allowing the materials, textures and shapes to do the talking, rather than filling every surface.

Finally, bring in decoration that connects the room back to nature. Plants are a great choice, but you can also use artwork inspired by the natural world, handmade pieces, or accessories made from natural materials and textures. The aim is to create a space that feels connected to nature without looking overly styled.

If you’re looking to bring a more organic feel into your home, it’s all about natural materials, warm earthy tones, soft textures and considered, timeless pieces.

At Anna Auzins Interiors, we create interiors that feel calm, comfortable and beautifully connected to the way you live.
