This wonderfully located flat was redecorated and furnished as a foothold in London for a young family -- a classic, comfortable living room and three inviting bedrooms.

Retaining the original Victorian proportions, the apartment has a luxurious master suite and dressing room and two timeless bedrooms for the children which will grow with them, all providing a welcome haven to retreat to.

the brief

This first and second floor apartment was to be a pied-a-terre to an international family who wanted to keep it’s early Victorian character, with its tall ceilings and sash windows. We were to decorate and furnish the place that they could call home from the moment they walked in the door. Ease of maintenance was also important, so that they could enjoy each moment, knowing the apartment would be there to welcome them each time.

THE WHY

When travelling frequently having a comfortable place to call home each time is important — everything needs to be in its place and the overall ambience must provide a sense of calm when things can be fraught. The apartment would also be used by various family members, so needs to cater to different needs while remaining practical for everyone. The Victorian style of the building needed to be respected, with classic yet contemporary furnishings that showed off it’s best features.

THE OUTCOME

Both practical and aesthetic considerations were addressed — the sash windows were repaired rather than replaced, and the simple linen curtains accentuated their original style. Comfortable furnishings invite you to sit down after a long journey, and the generous bedrooms cater to both the adults and children in the family. Beautiful light fittings perfectly positioned create the desired ambience.
