Storage solutions

When styling homes, there are numerous storage solutions and styles to consider, depending on client preferences. Two broad styles are maximalist and minimalist. Minimalism embraces simplicity, clean lines, and a 'less is more' philosophy, while maximalism revels in abundance, layering, and a more eclectic approach. But how can we achieve the ultimate maximalist look without it appearing cluttered and overwhelming?

The goal is to create a purposeful, curated space rather than an unplanned jumble of items. Maximalists often have a deep affection for their possessions, so starting with a thorough clear-out is beneficial. Evaluate items to keep by selecting those that are unique and serve a purpose. By removing unnecessary items, you allow the standout pieces to truly shine. The design can then highlight these key pieces, showcasing them to their full potential. Honesty is crucial during this process—ask yourself when you last used or admired each item and whether you’re likely to in the future.

Once the initial decluttering is complete, focus on ensuring everything has its place. Clever storage solutions can minimise clutter and reduce subconscious stress. Consider display solutions for collections; for example, a custom bookcase can elegantly house a large collection of books, and a gallery wall can beautifully showcase an abundance of artwork. One of our client’s had a sizeable key ring collection, so we designed a bespoke display case to highlight each key ring rather than hiding them in a box. These storage solutions can be a game changer in how you relax and move throughout your home.

Your renovation offers an opportunity for evolution. The process of discarding unwanted items becomes easier when you focus on moving toward an exciting new chapter, with your original style refreshed and elevated through clever storage solutions and careful planning and design. Embrace this change with enthusiasm, and a skilled designer will help guide you to your ideal interior.
